John Higgins will play Ben Woollaston in the final of the Welsh Open on Sunday after a semi-final win over Luca Brecel.

Four-time world champion Higgins remains on course for a record-breaking quartet of Welsh titles after a 6-4 win over the young Belgian.

The 39-year-old Scot, who has not registered a ranking title win since the Shanghai Masters in 2012, chalked up three century breaks in Cardiff and recovered from slipping from 2-0 up to 3-2 down against his 19-year-old opponent.

"I really enjoyed the game because I felt as if I was back playing the way I know I can," said Higgins.

"I've been struggling for the last couple of years so hopefully I can keep on playing the way I did today.

"It's been a long time since I've been in a final so I'm delighted."

Welshman Mark Williams' hopes of ending a four-year wait for a ranking title in front of a home crowd were dashed by Woollaston.
